Meet Kingston

Kingston is a 13-year-old who started writing the Ajax the Aqua Axolotl series when he was 9 years old. He loves exploring the outdoors—whether it’s a run through the park, a hike to discover something new, or visiting places like Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh to check out artistic trolls. When he’s not outside, he’s often sketching his own colorful creatures, playing piano, or reading whenever he gets the chance. His fascination with axolotls began long ago when he watched an axolotl-inspired episode of Wild Kratts, and that spark of curiosity helped inspire Ajax’s adventures. He’s also big on tennis and cross-country running, traveling with his family, and helping others through church camps and mission trips. And he’s got a rescue cat named Royce who’s pretty much his constant companion.

Why Kingston Wrote This Book

Kingston created Ajax the Aqua Axolotl because he wanted to share his curiosity about science and nature with other kids—and he wanted them to enjoy it in both English and Spanish. The story follows Ajax on an adventure that teaches real STEM concepts and environmental lessons, all while keeping it fun and engaging. Kingston believes that kids learn best when they’re excited about what they’re reading, so he made sure every page has something to discover.

Life Beyond the Pages

Kingston has always been on the move. On the lacrosse field, he’s intense and focused — the kind of player who carries his stick like it’s part of him. He travels with his big sister Kyla, who is 20 years his senior, and those adventures have taken him everywhere from Tennessee to the beach at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach, and even Orlando, Florida. When he needs to recharge, Kingston curls up with a good book, plays piano, or takes a quiet walk in the park. He loves church activities, holiday traditions with his family, playing in the leaves, digging up fossils, and just being a kid who loves to explore, question, and analyze the world around him.
